“Deep in colour with drying, polished tannins on the palate joined by crunchy red fruits followed by black currants, prune, pine, forest floor and a slight florality – quite a powerhouse for Sangiovese. The wine is getting closer, minus the acidity and tannin, to young Nebbiolo in terms of flavour profile than to the Sangioveses of the Chanti communes.” – Decanter
“Gorgeous nose! Black cherries and wet tar and fresh, homemade strawberry jam. Glossy, glistening dark-berried fruit with a lovely wild, briary flavour and a touch of bramble leafiness. Minty lift and freshness. Lovely balance. Lip-smacking finish.” – Jancis Robinson
Mastio 2020 is beautiful rich ruby in color with elements of ripe fruits on the nose with a hint of red cherry, strawberries almonds and green herbs. A well-balanced combination of elegance and intensity on the palate with soft tannins and a generous aftertaste.
The grapes were hand-harvested with four stages of strict sorting: first, on the vine, then by individual clusters, and then again, grape by grape. The hand selected grapes are then gravity fed directly into the concrete vats. The fermentation and maceration processes take a total of 3 weeks maximising the extraction of character and complexity while keeping the tannins round and supple. After the fermentation stage the wine is drained and then the malolactic fermentation takes place. Mastio 2020 is aged in the concrete vats and botte until bottling.
